Advanced Automotive Engineering: ten new graduates celebrate their achievement at Lamborghini

The headquarters of Automobili Lamborghini once again hosted one of the most significant moments in the MUNER academic journey, welcoming the latest graduation session of the Advanced Automotive Engineering Master’s Degree.

Ten students successfully defended their theses before the Graduation Committee during the afternoon, concluding a path of excellence developed through close collaboration between academia and industry. The session was marked by outstanding academic results, with six graduates receiving the highest distinction, cum laude.

The celebration continued at the Lamborghini Museum, where graduates, families, professors and company representatives gathered for the official graduation ceremony.

Opening the ceremony, Prof. Elena Bassoli, President of the Graduation Committee, congratulated the graduates on reaching this important milestone, encouraging them to carry forward the curiosity, determination and responsibility that have characterised their academic journey.

Representing Automobili Lamborghini, Matteo Ortenzi, Chief Strategy Officer & General Secretary, and Alberto Ferrarotto, Head of Learning Ecosystem & Skill Transformation, addressed the graduates with inspiring reflections on continuous learning, personal growth and the opportunities awaiting the next generation of automotive engineers.

Summer at MUNER continues with FAIM 2026: advanced training for the future of intelligent mobility

Every summer, MUNER welcomes students from around the world through a portfolio of international Summer Schools designed for different stages of the academic journey. From high-school students discovering engineering for the first time to Master’s students, PhD candidates and researchers deepening their expertise, each programme is tailored to a specific audience while sharing the same goal: connecting education with the excellence of the Motor Valley.

This week, the 2026 edition of Future of Automotive for Intelligent Mobility (FAIM) officially got underway at the University of Bologna‘s Department of Industrial Engineering, welcoming a selected group of Master’s students, PhD candidates and researchers.

Designed for participants with a strong academic background in engineering, FAIM offers two weeks of advanced training focused on the technologies redefining the automotive sector. The programme combines around 60 hours of lectures with practical activities, company experiences and opportunities to engage directly with both academic experts and industry professionals.

Participants will explore topics including advanced materials, smart manufacturing, sustainable powertrains, sensors and connectivity, power electronics, artificial intelligence, autonomous driving and fleet management. By bringing together expertise from different disciplines, FAIM reflects the increasingly integrated nature of mobility engineering and prepares participants to address the challenges of tomorrow.

Hosted in the heart of Italy’s Motor Valley, the Summer School provides not only advanced technical knowledge but also an international environment where participants can exchange ideas, expand their professional network and engage with one of the world’s leading automotive ecosystems.

Thirty students, one passion: inside the first week of the Italian Motor Valley Experience 2026

For thirty high-school students from across the globe, the first week of the Italian Motor Valley Experience has been much more than the start of a Summer School.

Hosted by the Department of Engineering “Enzo Ferrari” of UNIMOREUniversity of Modena and Reggio Emilia, the programme introduces participants to automotive engineering through lectures, laboratory activities and direct exposure to one of the world’s most renowned mobility ecosystems.

During the first days, students attended classes, worked together on academic activities and visited partner companies, gaining first-hand insight into the innovation that has made the Motor Valley internationally recognised.

Yet the experience goes beyond engineering.

One of the programme’s most appreciated moments was the traditional pasta afternoon, where participants learned to make fresh handmade pasta while discovering a different side of Emilia-Romagna: its food culture, traditions and sense of community.

This combination of academic excellence, industrial exposure and cultural experiences reflects the spirit of the Italian Motor Valley Experience, helping students explore future study opportunities while building friendships with peers from different countries.

The programme will continue throughout the second week with further educational activities and the final round table with industry representatives before concluding with the diploma ceremony.

Women in Transport 2026 concludes: two weeks of learning, innovation and inspiring connections across the Motor Valley

The 2026 edition of MUNER Women in Transport has officially come to an end, concluding two weeks of immersive learning, technical excellence and unforgettable experiences across the Motor Valley.

Bringing together talented female students from around the world, the Summer School once again confirmed its mission: empowering the next generation of engineers and mobility professionals through a unique combination of academic lectures, hands-on activities and direct engagement with some of the world’s leading automotive companies.

Throughout the programme, participants explored key topics shaping the future of automotive, motorsport and mobility while connecting with industry experts, researchers and fellow students in an international and collaborative environment. From classroom sessions to technical seminars, every activity was designed to bridge academic knowledge with real-world industrial applications.

A defining element of the Summer School was the opportunity to experience the Motor Valley ecosystem from the inside through exclusive visits to some of its most iconic companies. During the programme, participants were welcomed by DallaraFerrariLamborghiniMaserati and Visa Cash App RB, discovering first-hand the technologies, people and innovation that continue to make Emilia-Romagna one of the world’s leading hubs for the automotive and motorsport industries.

The journey also included an inspiring experience with MoRe Modena Racing, the Formula SAE team of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, offering participants a closer look at how passion, teamwork and engineering excellence come together in a student-led motorsport project.

These experiences represent the very essence of Women in Transport: creating meaningful opportunities for talented women to engage directly with industry, explore future career paths and become part of an international community driven by innovation, curiosity and ambition.

One ecosystem, one shared vision

On 7 July, the MUNER Shareholders’ Assembly and Board of Directors Meeting took place at the Dallara Academy, bringing together representatives of the Association’s 22 partner companies and four universities.

The meeting was an important opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the past academic year and to reaffirm the shared vision that, for almost ten years, has guided MUNER – Motor Valley University of Emilia-Romagna in its mission of educating the next generation of engineers and innovators for the automotive sector.

More than a higher education hub, MUNER represents a unique ecosystem where academia, industry and institutions work together to create opportunities for young talents from Italy and around the world, while strengthening the international competitiveness of the Motor Valley.

The Assembly also marked the renewal of MUNER’s governance. Andrea Pontremoli (Dallara) was confirmed as President of the Association, while Professor Francesco Leali (University of Modena and Reggio Emilia – UNIMORE) was appointed Vice President, succeeding Professor Enrico Sangiorgi (University of Bologna – UNIBO).

MUNER extends its sincere gratitude to Professor Sangiorgi for his valuable commitment and dedicated service over the past years, which has significantly contributed to the Association’s growth and development.

During the meeting, the members also renewed the composition of the Board of Directors, together with the representative of the Ordinary Members, ensuring continuity in MUNER’s governance while strengthening the collaboration between its academic and industrial partners.

As President Andrea Pontremoli often reminds us, MUNER’s strength lies in its ability to move from an “ego-system” to an “eco-system”: a model based on collaboration, shared expertise and a common vision, where universities and companies work side by side to shape the future of mobility.

A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who continues to invest time, expertise and vision in this shared project. Their commitment enables MUNER to provide world-class education and to further establish the Motor Valley as a global benchmark for innovation, engineering excellence and talent development.

Inside Dallara: Women in Transport participants experience engineering excellence

One of the highlights of the 2025 edition of MUNER Women in Transport took place on 1 July, when participants were welcomed to Dallara for a full day dedicated to engineering, innovation and first-hand industry experience.

The programme began with a technical seminar delivered by Dallara engineers, offering students valuable insights into the company’s technologies, projects and engineering approach. Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to engage directly with professionals, gaining a deeper understanding of the skills, challenges and opportunities that define today’s automotive sector.

Following the seminar, the group explored the Dallara ecosystem through guided visits to the Dallara AcademyDallara Automobili and the Dallara Stradale assembly line, discovering the entire journey from engineering design to vehicle production. The experience concluded with an exciting simulator session, allowing participants to experience Dallara’s racing DNA from a unique perspective.

The visit perfectly reflects the mission of Women in Transport: offering talented female students meaningful opportunities to connect with leading companies, experience real industrial environments and build relationships with professionals shaping the future of mobility.

Experiential learning is a core element of the Summer School, complementing lectures and workshops with direct exposure to the excellence of the Motor Valley ecosystem. International Summer School in Industrial Engineering for Advanced Automotive – 2026 Edition

There are still places available for the International Summer School in Industrial Engineering for Advanced Automotive, an intensive two-week programme held in Bologna, Italy.

The Summer School is aimed at master’s students and graduates in engineering disciplines, particularly those interested in advanced automotive engineering, industrial engineering, and manufacturing systems.

STEM RACING National Finals: building the next generation of mobility professionals

The STEM Racing Italy National Finals 2026 were more than a national competition.

They offered a tangible example of how the Motor Valley supports young talent through an educational pathway that connects secondary schools, universities and industry.

As a proud supporter of the event, MUNER brought together the Formula SAE teams from its partner universities to show students what the next step in their journey could look like.

Throughout the weekend, MoRe Modena Racing, UniBo Motorsport, UniPR Racing Team and Ferrara Squadra Corse welcomed participants in the paddock, while UniPR Racing Team also showcased its race car, giving students the opportunity to experience first-hand the projects developed within university teams.

The same vision inspired the late-night panel, where representatives of STEM Racing International, Formula SAE team leaders and Ferrari GT3 factory driver Tommaso Mosca reflected on the skills that transform passion into a profession. Across different perspectives, one message clearly emerged: talent is only the starting point. Competence grows through projects, teamwork, responsibility and continuous learning.

This is what makes the Motor Valley unique. Beyond being home to some of the world’s leading mobility companies, it is an educational ecosystem where every experience prepares students for the next challenge, helping them build the knowledge, mindset and professional skills needed to shape the future of mobility.

STEM Racing Italy National Finals 2026 held at Mugello Circuit

The 2026 STEM Racing Italy National Finals, held at the iconic Mugello Circuit, brought together hundreds of students, educators, judges, partners, and volunteers for an unforgettable experience that went far beyond competition.

Across the event, teams from all over Italy showcased their projects in a multidisciplinary challenge combining engineering design, manufacturing, project management, communication, and innovation. More than a race, STEM Racing proved to be a learning environment where talent, teamwork, and passion for motorsport come together to shape future professionals in the automotive and engineering sectors.

At Mugello, stories intertwined on and off the track: students sharing ideas and emotions, mentors guiding with dedication, and young talents discovering the value of collaboration and perseverance. The experience highlighted once again how STEM education can become a powerful driver for personal and professional growth.

Ferrari Luce: Industry lecture and Car presentation | MUNER students welcomed at Ferrari

On Tuesday, June 16, a group of MUNER students took part in an exclusive educational experience hosted by Ferrari at its Maranello factory.
The event, “Ferrari Luce – Industry Lecture and Car Presentation“, offered students the opportunity to engage directly with one of the world’s leading luxury sports cars companies through a programme combining technical insights and hands-on experience.
The morning began with an industry lecture delivered by Ferrari professionals, followed by an interactive Q&A session that allowed students to explore current challenges, technological developments, and career opportunities.


The experience concluded at Ferrari’s new e-Vortex test track, where students were introduced to the Ferrari Luce and its cutting-edge technologies. Beyond the presentation, they had the unique opportunity to examine the vehicle up close and interact with its technological features, turning innovation into a truly hands-on learning experience.

Learning from industry: Vimi Fasteners hosts technical workshop for MUNER students at Dallara Academy

Students enrolled in the Racing Car Design curriculum of MUNER recently participated in a technical workshop dedicated to high-performance fastening systems, hosted at Dallara Academy and delivered by Vimi Fasteners.

The session was led by Marco Sargenti, CEO of Vimi Fasteners, and Elia Bianco, General Manager, who introduced students to the engineering principles behind the design and application of fastening solutions developed for high-performance automotive and motorsport applications.

The workshop provided an overview of the technical challenges associated with fastening systems, highlighting their critical role in ensuring reliability, safety and performance in demanding operating conditions. Through real-world industrial examples, students had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of a highly specialised field that plays a key role in vehicle engineering.

EMERGE 2026: students explore the future of green transportation systems in the Motor Valley

The 2026 edition of the Electrical Machines and Drives for Green Transportation Systems (EMERGE) Summer School is currently underway, bringing together students from different countries for two weeks of advanced training in the heart of the Motor Valley.

Since the beginning of the programme, participants have been engaging in a rich combination of academic lectures, hands-on activities, and networking opportunities focused on the technologies that are shaping the future of sustainable mobility.

Through sessions led by international experts, students are deepening their knowledge of electrical machines, power electronics, and electric drives, while practical software-based activities allow them to apply theoretical concepts to real engineering challenges.

Beyond the classroom, the Summer School offers participants the opportunity to experience the unique innovation ecosystem of Emilia-Romagna through company visits and direct interaction with industry professionals, creating valuable connections between academia and industry.

Four days. Hundreds of conversations. One Community: MUNER at Motor Valley Fest 2026

For four days, Piazza Grande became one of the meeting points for students, universities and automotive enthusiasts during Motor Valley Fest 2026. Alongside the Formula SAE and MotoStudent teams from universities across Italy, MUNER welcomed hundreds of visitors to its information stand in the heart of the festival.

The stand was much more than an information point. It became a place where prospective students could ask questions about MUNER’s Master’s Degree programmes and educational offer, where current students shared their experiences, and where alumni, companies and visitors stopped to discover the opportunities offered by the MUNER network.

What made this possible was the enthusiasm and commitment of the many MUNER students who volunteered throughout the four days of the event. They welcomed visitors, answered questions, shared their academic journeys and represented the MUNER community with professionalism and passion.

Their contribution reflects one of the values at the core of MUNER: learning is not limited to the classroom, but grows through dialogue, collaboration and the exchange of experiences.

A sincere thank you to all the students who dedicated their time and energy to making MUNER’s presence at Motor Valley Fest 2026 such a success. They were the best ambassadors of our community.

Future Skills, Emerging Technologies and New Mobility Challenges: MUNER Talent Talk at Motor Valley Fest 2026

As part of the official programme of the Motor Valley Fest 2026, MUNER hosted its Talent Talk, an event designed to engage students, prospective students, industry professionals and automotive enthusiasts in a conversation about the future of mobility and the skills required to shape it.

Moderated by science communicator and content creator Sofia Trinchini, the discussion brought together:

  • Matteo Giacopini, Director of the Advanced Automotive Engineering Degree Programme;
  • Massimo Bertozzi, Director of the Electronic Engineering for Intelligent Vehicles Degree Programme;
  • Gabriele Rizzoli, Assistant Professor of the University of Bologna within the Electric Vehicle Engineering programme, participating on behalf of Programme Director Prof. Claudio Rossi.

Rather than focusing on a traditional presentation of degree programmes, the Talent Talk explored the major technological, industrial and societal transformations currently reshaping the automotive sector.

The conversation addressed topics such as artificial intelligence, software-defined vehicles, electrification, sustainability, interdisciplinary engineering and the growing importance of human skills alongside technical expertise.

At the same time, the discussion offered an opportunity to showcase how MUNER’s three Master’s Degree programmes Advanced Automotive Engineering, Electronic Engineering for Intelligent Vehicles and Electric Vehicle Engineering — are designed to respond to these evolving industry needs.

Throughout the event, speakers reflected on the competencies increasingly sought by companies operating across the Motor Valley ecosystem and on the profiles that will be required to drive innovation in the coming years.

Questions ranged from the impact of AI on vehicle development to the role of electrification in future mobility, from the value of interdisciplinary knowledge to the importance of adaptability, collaboration and continuous learning.

The 2026 Summer School season at MUNER has officially begun with the opening of the third edition of the Summer School in Off-Highway Vehicle Design, hosted by the University of Bologna.

The program brings together students, researchers, and industry professionals for an intensive educational experience focused on the design, development, and innovation of off-highway vehicles — a strategic field that includes agricultural, construction, and industrial applications.

The first day introduced participants to the technological and engineering challenges of the sector through lectures dedicated to:

  • the characteristics, applications, and development challenges of off-highway vehicles;
  • undercarriage systems for off-highway applications;
  • a technical visit at the UNIBO Farm facilities.

The opening sessions featured contributions from experts and professors from the University of Bologna and Berco, offering participants an initial overview of the multidisciplinary approach that characterizes the entire Summer School.

Over the coming weeks, the program will continue with lectures, company visits, hackathon activities, simulations, testing sessions, and practical workshops involving important industrial partners and academic institutions within the MUNER network.

The Summer School represents one of the many educational initiatives through which MUNER strengthens the connection between higher education, research, and the industrial ecosystem of the Motor Valley, offering students direct exposure to real-world engineering challenges and future mobility technologies.

Prof. Francesco Leali, MUNER Delegate for Teaching, will participate in the conference Human Capital & New Competence Requirements, contributing to the discussion on the new skills and competencies required by the automotive sector.

Driving Innovation Hackathon Finals

On Friday, May 29 at 4:30 PM, the final event of the Driving Innovation Hackathon 2026 will take place during Motor Valley Fest.

The initiative, promoted by Motor Valley Accelerator in collaboration with MUNER and AssetClassic, involved multidisciplinary university student teams working on innovation challenges for the future of mobility. Finalists will present their projects before a jury of experts during the event. 

Academic Year Closing Event

MUNER will conclude the festival week with its exclusive Academic Year Closing Event, dedicated to the MUNER community.

The event will take place on Friday, May 29, from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Orto Botanico di Modena, featuring networking moments, closing speeches and an aperitif.

MoRe Modena Racing and UniBo Motorsport bring the Motor Valley to Formula SAE Michigan 2026

The University of Bologna and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, through their Formula SAE teams UniBo Motorsport and MoRe Modena Racing, took part in Formula SAE Michigan 2026, held from 12 to 16 May at the Michigan International Speedway (USA).

For the first time, the two teams competed together under the patronage of MUNER – Motor Valley University of Emilia-Romagna, which supported the initiative and contributed to its institutional coordination. The participation brought two student-developed prototypes from the Emilia-Romagna university system to one of the most recognised international competitions in the field of automotive and motorsport engineering.

Formula SAE Michigan, promoted by SAE International, gathers more than 110 university teams from around the world. The competition challenges students to design, develop and race formula-style vehicles, assessed through static and dynamic events including design, cost analysis, business presentation, technical inspection and on-track performance.

The 2026 edition was marked by significant logistical challenges affecting the Italian teams, as the vehicles—although shipped well in advance—were released only after the competition had already begun due to customs and shipping-related issues. This resulted in a substantially reduced preparation window on site, compressing several days of technical and safety procedures into a very short timeframe.

Despite these difficulties, both UniBo Motorsport and MoRe Modena Racing demonstrated strong technical capability and resilience, confirming the quality of their engineering work and the strength of the educational model behind Formula SAE.

MoRe Modena Racing achieved 2nd place in the Design Event, 3rd place in the Acceleration Event and 12th place overall, while UniBo Motorsport concluded the competition in 18th position overall.

“Formula SAE Michigan is a highly challenging environment where technical preparation and project execution are tested at the highest level,” said Matteo Giacopini, Faculty Advisor of MoRe Modena Racing (University of Modena and Reggio Emilia). “The results achieved, especially under such conditions, confirm the value of the students’ work.”

“Taking part in Formula SAE Michigan means competing at the highest level of international university competition,” added Nicolò Cavina, Faculty Advisor of UniBo Motorsport (University of Bologna). “The team demonstrated competence, clarity and adaptability throughout a very challenging event.”

“This experience went far beyond a competition,” stated the team leaders. “We had to complete in a few hours what normally requires days of preparation, maintaining focus and teamwork under pressure.”

MUNER continues to support Formula SAE and MotoStudent teams from the Universities of Emilia-Romagna, promoting experiential and interdisciplinary education pathways and strengthening the connection between academia, industry and the global automotive ecosystem.

“This experience shows that the Motor Valley is also a Motor Valley of education,” said Francesco Leali, member of the MUNER Steering Committee. “Supporting these initiatives means investing in the skills and global competitiveness of future engineers.”

MUNER joins the Skills Intelligence Emilia-Romagna Focus Group on Data Engineering, AI and Vehicle Performance Analytics

On May 5, 2026, MUNER – Motorvehicle University of Emilia-Romagna participated in the Skills Intelligence Emilia-Romagna Focus Group hosted at Tecnopolo DAMA in Bologna, contributing to the discussion on:

“Skills in Data Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Vehicle Performance Analytics for High-Performance Vehicle Engineering”.

The initiative was organized within the broader Skills Intelligence Emilia-Romagna project promoted by ART-ER and supported by the Emilia-Romagna Region. The project aims to strengthen the regional system for anticipating high-specialization skills needs by combining quantitative labour market data with qualitative multi-stakeholder analysis. 

The workshop specifically focused on the growing demand for competencies in:

  • Data Engineering
  • Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning
  • Vehicle Performance Analytics

within the field of high-performance vehicle engineering. 

The initiative brought together companies, research organizations, and innovation stakeholders from the Emilia-Romagna ecosystem, including AVL, Toyota Industries Europe, BI-REX, Comau, CNA Emilia-Romagna and Pomiager.

During the session, participants explored how the automotive sector is evolving towards increasingly software-defined and data-driven vehicles, where data and AI technologies are becoming strategic assets across the entire value chain — from advanced design and simulation to testing, performance analysis, and manufacturing optimization. 

The discussion also highlighted the increasing need for hybrid professional profiles capable of combining engineering expertise with advanced digital and data competencies, reinforcing the importance of stronger alignment between higher education and industry needs. 

As part of the Motor Valley ecosystem, MUNER continues to support collaboration between universities, research centers, and companies, contributing to the development of future talents for the mobility sector.

The detailed program of the MUNER Summer School in Off-Highway Vehicle Design 2026 is now available, offering a comprehensive overview of the learning activities, technical sessions and industry experiences that will characterize the initiative.

The Summer School will take place between 25–29 May 2026 for the intensive week, followed by additional sessions on 4, 5, 10, 11 and 12 June 2026. Activities will be hosted across multiple locations, including the University of Bologna (Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences), CNH Italia (Modena), and industrial sites such as Carraro.

The program combines lectures, hands-on sessions, technical visits and project-based work, providing participants with direct exposure to the off-highway vehicle sector.

Ragazze Digitali 2026: applications now open for the free summer camp

Applications are now open for the 2026 edition of Ragazze Digitali, the free summer camp designed for 3rd and 4th year high school girls interested in exploring programming and digital technologies.

The initiative offers a two-week, hands-on learning experience aimed at introducing participants to STEM disciplines through practical activities, teamwork, and project-based learning, supported by mentors and professionals.

The 2026 edition will take place from June 8 to 19, 2026, and includes 48 hours of activities, recognised as part of school-work experience programmes.

Participants can choose among three thematic tracks, hosted in different locations:

  • Modena – Code & Play: game development with Python
  • Mirandola – MedTech Makers: bioengineering and development of a portable ECG device
  • Carpi – Green-Tech Innovators: automation, sustainability and mechanical prototyping with Arduino

MUNER students meet NASCAR engineers at Dallara Academy

Second-year students of the Advanced Automotive Engineering – Racing Car Design curriculum attended a guest lecture as part of the course Racecar Systems and Components, delivered by Prof. Luca Pignacca.

The session featured two technical representatives from NASCAR: Charles Tobin (Managing Director, Vehicle Systems) and Timothy Murphy (Senior Director, Design Engineer).

During the lecture, the speakers introduced students to the structure and functioning of NASCAR as a premier American racing series, outlining their respective engineering roles and responsibilities within the organisation.

A significant part of the session focused on the long-standing collaboration between NASCAR and Dallara Automobili, which has led to the development of several key projects, including the new Cup Series platform, the first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) in NASCAR history, and the Garage 56 entry at the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The collaboration is currently ongoing, with two new race cars under development for future competition.

The lecture took place at the Dallara Academy, in front of the Garage 56 car, offering students a unique opportunity to connect classroom knowledge with real-world motorsport engineering practice.

Students from MUNER recently visited Toyota Material Handling for an immersive learning experience focused on research and development, product design, simulation and advanced manufacturing.

The visit offered students a valuable opportunity to gain firsthand insight into industrial innovation and to explore how engineering competencies are applied in a global industrial context.

The day opened with an overview of Toyota Material Handling Manufacturing Italy’s R&D activities, providing students with a broad perspective on the company’s organization, areas of expertise and key development activities.

Through presentations from professionals involved in simulation engineering and product design, students were introduced to concrete examples of daily work in research and development, while also gaining insight into international career paths and cross-cultural professional experiences.

The program also included a factory tour, allowing participants to discover production processes and observe how innovation is translated into manufacturing practice.

A key element of the visit was the direct dialogue between students and company professionals, with questions, exchange and discussion contributing to a dynamic and engaging learning experience.

Motor Valley: An Ecosystem that Generates Value”: insights from the Bologna event

The event “Motor Valley: An Ecosystem that Generates Value”, held on April 17 in Bologna at the headquarters of the Emilia-Romagna Region, brought together key representatives from institutions, industry, and academia to discuss the present and future of one of Italy’s most distinctive industrial ecosystems.

The initiative was organized in conjunction with the presentation of a research study carried out by Nomisma, focusing on the impact generated by Motor Valley companies along the national supply chain. The study provided an in-depth analysis of the economic, industrial, and social value produced by this ecosystem, highlighting its relevance in terms of industrial policy, international attractiveness, tourism, and the development of advanced competencies.

The event featured contributions from prominent speakers, including Adolfo Urso, Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy; Michele de Pascale, President of the Emilia-Romagna Region; Vincenzo Colla, Vice President of the Region; Roberta Frisoni, Regional Minister for Tourism, Trade and Sport; Andrea Pontremoli, President of Motor Valley Association; and Prof. Lucio Poma, Chief Economist at Nomisma.

A central theme emerging from the discussion was the strategic role of education in supporting the evolution of the automotive sector. In his speech, Andrea Pontremoli emphasized how the strength of the Motor Valley lies in its ability to act as an integrated ecosystem, where institutions, companies, and academic actors collaborate to develop the competencies required by future mobility.

MUNER at Equal Pay Day Česko: fostering international dialogue on gender equality

MUNER – Motor Valley University of Emilia-Romagna took part in the Equal Pay Day Česko in Prague, following an invitation from ART-ER.

The two-day event brought together professionals, companies, institutions, and organisations from 18 countries, creating a dynamic international platform to address gender equality and equal pay through dialogue, mentoring, and exchange.

The programme combined a conference focused on the gender pay gap with a series of mentoring sessions dedicated to personal and professional development. Key topics included the impact of AI on the future of work, generational shifts, and the implementation of pay transparency policies, highlighting how fair and inclusive environments are increasingly linked to resilience, competitiveness, and the ability to attract future talent.

MUNER was represented by Teresa Serra, Communication Manager, who contributed to the mentoring activities, while Claudia Ferrigno participated on behalf of ART-ER.

Participation in initiatives such as Equal Pay Day reinforces MUNER’s commitment to promoting gender equality and inclusion, in line with the activities carried out by its Gender and Diversity Empowerment Committee. The event also provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen international connections and foster collaboration across institutions, industries, and research environments.

Applications Open for FAIM 2026 – Future of Automotive for Intelligent Mobility

Applications are now open for the 2026 edition of the MUNER Summer School Future of Automotive for Intelligent Mobility.

This international program is aimed at PhD students and young researchers in automotive and mobility engineering. 

The Summer School will run in Bologna (University of Bologna – Dept. of Industrial Engineering) from 20 to 31 July 2026, and will host about 30 selected participants.

Over the two-week program, participants will engage in lectures, hands-on workshops and company visits (totaling roughly 60 hours of instruction and 20 hours of practical activities).

The curriculum covers the technologies shaping tomorrow’s vehicles: new materials and manufacturing processes, advanced (sustainable) powertrains, energy storage and sustainable fuels, sensors and connectivity, power electronics, computing and artificial intelligence, autonomous driving and fleet management. All activities will be conducted in English.

The Summer School is organized by MUNER – Motor Valley University in collaboration with top regional companies, ensuring networking and real industry exposure.

The initiative is part of the MUSE – Motorvehicle University Skills Empowerment project (co-funded by Regione Emilia-Romagna and the EU’s FSE+ 2021-2027).

Applications open for the Driving Innovation Hackathon 2026

Motor Valley Accelerator has officially opened the Call for Students for the fifth edition of the Driving Innovation Hackathon 2026, organized in collaboration with MUNER – Motor Valley University of Emilia-Romagna and AssetClassic.

The initiative offers university students and recent graduates the opportunity to work in multidisciplinary teams to address real-world challenges proposed by leading companies in the automotive and mobility sector.

Students can apply individually or in teams by 12 April 2026 through the online form. Teams may consist of 3 to 5 members, with at least one engineering student, and applications are open to students from all universities and academic backgrounds, with a preference for MSc and PhD students nearing the completion of their studies and interested in entrepreneurial opportunities.

Once the teams are formed, participants will work on innovation challenges proposed by partner companies including STMicroelectronics, Agrati Group, Dallara, Pirelli, OMR Automotive, Gruppo Hera and Unipol Group, as well as by AssetClassic.

After developing their proposed solutions, teams will be required to submit a 5-minute video pitch by 11 May 2026presenting their project.

The finalist teams will present their projects on 29 May 2026 in Modena during the Motor Valley Fest, in front of a jury composed of industry experts.

Winning teams will receive a prize to support the next stage of project development, which may include building a prototype or launching a startup. In addition, they will benefit from mentorship by the Motor Valley Accelerator team in the development of their business plan and business model, as well as access to major networking opportunities such as the Expo Day, where startups, investors, corporates, and stakeholders from the automotive ecosystem meet.

Scholarship “AAE al Femminile – Antonia Terzi e Valeria Giannotta alla memoria” awarded during WOW Women Motor 2026

On 8 March 2026, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the award ceremony for the “AAE al Femminile – Antonia Terzi e Valeria Giannotta alla memoria” scholarship took place at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, during the event WOW Women Motor – Women Opening Ways.

The scholarship, promoted by ECO Certificazioni S.p.A. in collaboration with the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE), reached its 5th edition in the academic year 2025/2026.

This year’s award was granted to Isabella Giunta, a student enrolled in the International Master’s Degree in Advanced Automotive Engineering, part of the MUNER – Motor Valley University of Emilia-Romagna educational project.

With a total value of €5,000, the scholarship supports female students pursuing advanced studies in automotive engineering and aims to encourage greater participation of women in STEM disciplines, contributing to reducing the gender gap in engineering and technology-related careers.

The initiative is also part of the activities promoted by the MUNER Gender and Diversity Empowerment Committee, established in 2023 to foster diversity and inclusion within the automotive education ecosystem.

The award ceremony took place within the fourth edition of WOW Women Motor, an event dedicated to female empowerment in motorsport and STEM that attracted more than 1,000 participants, including students, families and industry professionals.

The scholarship represents a concrete commitment to supporting talented female students and promoting a more inclusive future for the automotive sector.

Applications open for EMERGE 2026 – Summer School on Electrical Machines and Drives for Green Transportation Systems

Applications are now open for EMERGE 2026, the Summer School dedicated to Electrical Machines and Drives for Green Transportation Systems, which will take place in Modena from 8 to 19 June 2026.

The initiative offers a two-week advanced training programme, combining high-level scientific content with hands-on activities and direct interaction with industry, in one of Europe’s most renowned automotive regions.

Programme structure

The Summer School is divided into two complementary modules. Participants may apply to the entire programme (Module 1 + Module 2) or only to Module 1.

Module 1

“Advances in Electrical Machines and Drives for Green Transportation”

This first module focuses on the theoretical and technological foundations of electrical machines and drives for sustainable transportation systems.

The number of available places is limited.
Priority will be given to applicants who are residents or domiciled in the Emilia-Romagna region, as well as to students enrolled in universities or AFAM institutions within the region.

International ICE Forward Symposium 2026: MUNER endorses the international conference on sustainable ICE technologies

From June 3–5, 2026, Bologna will host the International ICE Forward Symposium 2026 (ICEF), a major international event dedicated to sustainable propulsion technologies based on internal combustion engines.

The symposium is organized by the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Bologna in collaboration with the Transportation Systems Division of ASME – American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and is patronized by MUNER – Motorvehicle University of Emilia-Romagna and Clust-ER Meccatronica e Motoristica.

The event will take place at the historic complex of San Giovanni in Monte in Bologna and will bring together academics, researchers, and industry professionals to share knowledge, ideas, and research results on the latest developments in internal combustion engine technologies.

Scientific Focus

The conference will explore how to enhance performance, efficiency, and sustainability of internal combustion engines — technologies that remain fundamental across many industrial and transportation sectors.

Graduation Day at Dallara Academy: MUNER celebrates 10 new graduates in Advanced Automotive Engineering

On 11 February 2026, MUNER – Motorvehicle University of Emilia-Romagna held a new graduation session at the Dallara Academy in Varano de’ Melegari, one of the most symbolic locations for the MUNER community and a long-standing venue for its graduation ceremonies.

The session involved 10 students from the Master’s Degree in Advanced Automotive Engineering, who presented their final thesis projects in front of the Graduation Committee composed of Alessandro Pirondi, Michele Pinelli, Silvio Sorrentino, Saverio Giulio Barbieri, and chaired by Prof. Matteo Giacopini. The discussions highlighted the strong integration between academic education and industrial applications that characterizes MUNER’s educational model.

During the proclamation ceremony, Ing. Giampaolo Dallara addressed the graduates with an inspiring message, underlining how Italian universities stand out for their ability to educate highly versatile engineers, thanks to the strong foundations provided during their academic education. His words resonated deeply with the values at the core of MUNER’s mission.

The Master’s Degree in Advanced Automotive Engineering is one of MUNER’s flagship programs and is designed to train engineers capable of operating in highly technological, complex, and international environments. The program covers a wide range of topics, from vehicle design and performance to materials and systems engineering. Among its curricula, Racing Car Design represents a unique educational experience, with the entire second year taking place at the Dallara Academy, offering students direct exposure to an industrial context of excellence in motorsport engineering.

Celebrating this important milestone at Dallara Academy once again reflects MUNER’s educational vision: a model where academic excellence, close collaboration with industry, and the values of the Motor Valley come together to shape the engineers of tomorrow.

On 8 March 2026, the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola will open its gates to the public for the fourth edition of WOW – Women Motor, the initiative dedicated to women empowerment, STEM education, and inclusion in the automotive and motorsport sectors.

Born in the heart of Italy’s Motor Valley, WOW is more than an event: it is a structured platform connecting institutions, companies, and the education system, creating opportunities for young talents and reducing the gap between education and professional careers.

MUNER’s Contribution

For the fourth consecutive year, MUNER – Motor Valley University of Emilia-Romagna is proud to support WOW – Women Motor. The call is reserved to international students requiring an entry visa in Italy (EXTRA-EU) and refers to the International Inter-University Master’s Degree Programme offered within the MUNER – Motor Valley University of Emilia-Romagna network.

The programme is fully taught in English and is designed to train highly qualified engineers capable of working on the design, development and integration of advanced automotive systems, with a specific focus on high-performance cars, motorcycles and innovative vehicle solutions, in close connection with the Motor Valley ecosystem and its leading industrial partners.

Admission Call 2026/27 open for NON-EU Students – Electronic Engineering for Intelligent Vehicles

The Admission Call for NON-EU students to the 2026 edition of the Master’s Degree in Electronic Engineering for Intelligent Vehicles (EEIV) is now open.

Launched in the academic year 2022/23, the programme offers a cutting-edge educational pathway aimed at training engineers capable of applying electronics, ICT and information technologies to new-generation vehicles, contributing to safer, smarter and more sustainable mobility.

The Master’s Degree is structured into two innovative curricula:

The programme is fully taught in English and is delivered jointly by:

  • the University of Parma (Administrative headquarters),
  • the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia,
  • and the University of Bologna,
    with teaching activities distributed across the three campuses according to the chosen curriculum.

Admission is based on academic merit and an interview aimed at assessing candidates’ motivation and technical background. Applicants are required to hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, have adequate knowledge of basic sciences and engineering subjects, and demonstrate English language proficiency at least at B2 level.

The programme also includes internships in companies and research laboratories, project-based thesis activities, seminars with industry professionals and international speakers, and factory visits, offering strong career perspectives within the automotive and mobility sectors.

MUNER joins M-TECH Alfredo Ferrari: a new educational hub for the innovators of tomorrow

MUNER – Motor Valley University of Emilia-Romagna will be part of M-TECH Alfredo Ferrari, the new educational hub supported by Ferrari in collaboration with Fondazione Agnelli and local institutions, which will be inaugurated in Maranello in 2029.

The project represents a strategic investment in education, innovation and advanced technical skills, aiming to create an integrated learning ecosystem that spans from secondary education to university programmes, professional specialisation and lifelong learning.

Within the new campus, MUNER will be hosted with dedicated spaces dedicated to advanced activities in mechanical design, simulation and engineering education. Students will have access to state-of-the-art workstations, professional software and CAD/CAM modelling tools, strengthening the connection between academic training and the industrial world.

M-TECH Alfredo Ferrari will also host the Istituto di Istruzione Superiore “Alfredo Ferrari”, ITS Maker Academy, and professional upskilling programmes, creating a unique environment where education, research and industry coexist and collaborate.

The initiative is promoted by Ferrari also through the generosity of Ferraristi, together with Fondazione Agnelli, and developed in close cooperation with Regione Emilia-Romagna, Provincia di Modena and Comune di Maranello, with the shared objective of generating a positive impact on the territory and attracting students at national and international level.

For MUNER, participation in M-TECH Alfredo Ferrari represents a further step in strengthening its mission: educating the next generation of engineers and innovators at the heart of the Motor Valley, in direct connection with one of the world’s most advanced automotive ecosystems.
