Federica Graffeo wins the first Women in Transport Best Paper Award at IEEE WEMDCD 2025
The 2025 edition of the IEEE Workshop on Electrical Machine Design, Control and Diagnosis (WEMDCD), held in Malta, marked a milestone for the international research community in electrical engineering. With over 100 accepted contributions and 148 attendees, this year’s event was the most successful to date.
Among its key innovations was the introduction of the Women in Transport Best Paper Award, strongly supported by the MUNER Gender and Diversity Empowerment Committee and promoted by Professor Elena Bassoli, coordinator of the committee. The award aims to highlight the work of early-career women researchers whose contributions combine scientific excellence and potential industrial impact.
The award was granted to Federica Graffeo, a researcher at Politecnico di Torino, for her paper: “Efficiency Mapping of Electrically Excited Synchronous Motors with Different Control Strategies.”
As part of the award, Dr. Graffeo will be invited to Modena to speak at the upcoming Women in Transport Summer School 2025.
The initiative is part of MUNER’s broader commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the automotive and mobility sectors.
