EMERGE 2024 Summer School has started in Modena
The third edition of the Summer School on Electrical Machines and Drives for Green Transportation Systems (EMERGE) opened on Monday, September 8, with an intense day of lectures and discussions.
After the opening remarks by Prof. Davide Barater, Director of the Summer School, and Prof. Gianluca Marchi, Vice-Rector of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, the morning was dedicated to keynote speeches delivered by international experts:
- Matias Troncoso and Irene Donà, Ferrari (Italy) — “Testing of high-performance electric powertrain components: challenges and solutions”
- Takashi Yamada, JMAG International (Japan) — “How Numerical Simulation is Revolutionizing Machine Design and Future Perspectives”
- Andreas Carlsson, Polestar (Sweden) — “Asymmetric Radial Flux Permanent Magnet Motors”
The afternoon featured a PhD poster session and a technical lecture by Prof. Fengyu Zhang, University of Nottingham (UK), on “Advanced E-Machine Thermal Management for Green Transportation Systems”.
???? The Summer School will continue until September 19 with lectures, company visits, and networking activities.
The EMERGE Summer School is part of the MUSE – Motorvehicle University Skills Empowerment project, organized by Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia, Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna, MUNER – Motorvehicle University of Emilia-Romagna, and Fondazione Marco Biagi, and co-funded by Regione Emilia-Romagna and FSE+ 2021/2027.

???? Special Event – Women in Engineering: Breaking the Paradigm
On September 9, the Summer School hosted at Tecnopolo di Modena the event “Women in Engineering: Breaking the Paradigm”, promoted by Unimore and MUNER, with the support of IEEE PELS and the PRISMA project.
The event opened a constructive discussion on the role of women in engineering, challenging stereotypes and promoting more inclusive and equitable academic and professional environments.
Moderated by Dr. Francesca Nepoti, the program featured interventions from women professionals in research and industry, followed by a networking cocktail.
Closing remarks were given by Prof. Rita Cucchiara, newly elected Rector of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
